Facebook to flag deceased folks

Facebook is a massive online giant with more than 300 million active users worldwide, and upkeeping its database with the most current data could potentially be a headache. After all, people DO die, and the social network behemoth aims to solve the problem of what happens when a member starts to push daisies.

"Obviously, we wanted to be able to model people's relationships on Facebook, but how do you deal with an interaction with someone who is no longer able to log on? When someone leaves us, they don't leave our memories or our social network. To reflect that reality, we created the idea of 'memorialized' profiles as a place where people can save and share their memories of those who've passed."

In order to "memorialize" a profile, members are encouraged to make use of the feedback form which will require some proof of a relationship to the person in question, alongside to a link to prove that the person has gone on to the next world. Once memorialized, all information such as phone numbers are removed with the profile being locked up.
