With T-Mobile and Big Red swelling their Android powered smartphones list, AT&T cannot afford to relax and hence it has announced its first Android OS phone-Motorola Backflip- for a March 7 release. AT&T admirers can be rest assured of the phone arrival as it is not a scoop but a confirmed development coming from the carrier itself. You've just got to love the slow trickle of information about your next smartphone, right? Just days after hearing that Best Buy would gladly accept your pre-order on Motorola's Devour (without actually telling you the final price, comically enough), this leaked flyer has flown into our inbox to clear up the mystery. Unless we've got some seriously awesome Photoshop work going on here, it seems as if the Flash supporting handset will sell for $149.99 on a 2-year Verizon contract, and of course, that's sans mail-in rebate if you snag one from the Big

Aw, why don't these CEOs say stuff like this in press conferences? Sony Ericsson's head Bert Nordberg has shared with Swedish publication Sydsvenskan the rather salacious news that his company was asked to build the so-called Google phone before HTC... and it turned down the opportunity. Fearing brand dilution or something equally crazy, Nordberg states that Sony Ericsson is committed to building only its own-branded hardware and will not be a subcontractor to anyone. Haughty words from a company whose own Android device is still a good couple of months

February 22nd came and went with nary a word from Spring Design about its Alex availability. Now, after a bit of prodding, we're being told to check back during the first week of March; that's when you'll be able to order your dual-screen, 3.5-inch Android and 6-inch EPD e-Reader. So, $359 for Alex or $499 for the iPad launching just a few weeks later... decisions, decisions

Google reportedly has a planned press conference on Tuesday to announce some new features to its online email service which will turn it into more of a social hub of communication between friends. The new “widget” that will be added to the free Gmail tool will allow users to keep up with their friends through a stream of quick updates, similar to sites like Facebook and Twitter.

This is not a surprising move for Google who is continuously trying to keep online users centered around Google’s tools, providing the company with more

Google has announced the latest stage in their plans to accelerate broadband speeds, with a plan to offer 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections for between 50,000 and 500,000 people across the US. The planned service is described as “competitive” and the network would offer connections about 100 times the speed of the current average US broadband.

Once the new system is in place, Google is hoping to experiment with new uses of high-speed connectivity, like bandwidth-intensive apps and services, together with looking at the

The first installment of Google's fancy Nexus One design series focused on the sound quality of the device, and on the overall design. Well, part two is here now, and this time, we get to watch while HTC project manager Tomasz Hasinki and Android software engineer Romain Guy give us the goods on the Nexus One's OLED display and the interactive, 3D framework. We're expecting a couple more videos in the series, so grab a very tiny bowl of popcorn (it's pretty short) and check out the video, which is after the break.

AT&T will soon see a version of the Google Nexus One Smartphone hop on to its network, thanks to the approval of such a device. An FCC filing reveals that an AT&T-compatible Nexus One has been given the nod and is likely to be available for the GSM-based provider in a few months time.

According to the FCC filing, it is a smartphone with model number 99110, made by HTC, which has been approved as AT&T compatible. This proves beyond doubt that it is the Nexus One, as the current Nexus One has model number 99100. With
