If there's one thing that bugs us about desktop component reviews, it's that they tend to compare the latest hardware against the stuff immediately preceding it. Everyone wants to know what the improvements between generations are, but for many it's also equally useful to know how 2010's freshness compares to their own computers, which might have been bought or built a few years back. For those precious prospective upgraders, Tech Report have put together an extremely thorough benchmarking session which compares the venerable Pentium 4 670 and its silly

For some among us, the VAIO E series is the pinnacle of modern mobile computing design. Then there are other, saner individuals, who prefer the understated aesthetics of what are commonly termed business laptops. For that latter group, we have a whole glut of new Toshiba notebooks to look at, highlighted by the delectable looking Portege M780 above. Much in the vein of HP's 2730p, it's a 12.1-inch convertible tablet PC, with a spill-resistant keyboard and rugged features (tested to withstand drops from up to 1 meter), but its biggest attraction will still

CES is great and all, but one of the bones we choose to pick with the show is the typically long gap between the Vegas introduction and the mass market ship date. Thankfully for us, Toshiba has no interest in keeping us waiting for one of the world's first Intel Wireless Display-equipped (or WiDi, as it were) laptops. The Satellite E205 -- which comes stocked with a 2.53GHz Core i5-430M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a dual-layer DVD writer, 14-inch display (1,366 x 768 resolution), 500GB hard drive and a Netgear Push2TV wireless display adapter -- is now

We probably pour far too much time into dissecting the latest ThinkPad model or superphone, so to balance things out here's some positive news coming out of Intel regarding its laptop distribution programme for the developing world. Still a for-profit venture, the Classmate PC project seems to have been developing rather well, which has led the chipmaker to announce it'll be overhauling the case designs and internals of the machines it has on offer. Coming later this year, the new netbook models will offer Atom N450 and N470 Pineview CPUs as well

Best Buy already stocked up on the Core i5-equipped VAIO S and Satellite E205, and now it seems that everyone else is following suit. Just weeks after Intel announced that it would be releasing Core i5 and Core i7 chips for the mobile realm, the usual suspects have already outed a number of refreshed rigs that include said slabs of silicon. Sony's 14-inch VAIO CW is now available from $829 with a mobile Core i3, while the $1,120 version ships with a Core i5, NVIDIA's GeForce GT 330M CPU and a Blu-ray combo drive. Dell has obliged by adding a 2.53GHz Core i5

An e-mail sent to members of Intel’s Retail Edge promotional program highlight an upcoming MacBook Pro from Apple with a new Core i5 processor. The promotion was included in an e-mail sent to members of the Intel Retail Edge Program. It reads: “January Prize Draw: Win a MacBook Pro. Pass this month’s trainings for 2 chances to win one of 2 MacBook Pro laptops with the accelerated response of an Intel Core i5 processor.”

Right now, the top MacBook Pro has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Last week at CES,

Intel has sent out a revised email to members of the Intel Retail Edge Program, who previously received an email offering a MacBook Pro powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, changing the prize laptop offered from a Intel Core i5 MacBook Pro, to a HP ENVY laptop (which is obviously still powered by the Core i5 processor). While this is disappointing, it doesn’t mean that we won’t be offered a Core i5-powered MacBook Pro from Apple, just that Intel isn’t offering one for free at the moment, that’s all, so you can keep your

If you were at the National Retail Federation Convention (NRF) in New York recently, chances are that you would have bumped into an awesome piece of technology innovation displayed there in the form of a 7-foot-6-inch signage. Put up by none other than Intel, the new multi-user, multi-touch Intel Intelligent Digital Signage concept is a prototype that could be a common landmark in the future at malls convention centers, airports, banks and cinemas.

One significant feature of the Intel Intelligent Digital Signage device is that it
